"RHYTHM PATTERNS IN DIFFERENT STYLES OF MUSIC" discusses the Historical origins of the syncopated music (New Orleans’ Congo Square, the Rag Time, the "tango" scandals, beginning of jazz, Novelty piano style, G. Gershwin’s role in legitimizing jazz on the world concert stage, etc). ___________________________________________________________________________________
“Finding a performer who can present an “informance” for junior and senior high school students comes very rarely, and your educational residencies not only informed, but interested the students at both levels. Teachers were most complimentary of your rapport with the students. Thank you for that, for I am a former high school teacher, and I know the difficulties.” Naomi Cordill RUPAR Chairperson Ex. Director of the Princess Theatre
Approximately 220 students sat spell-bound (that is something for High School students). To say it was beautiful, enthralling, wonderful is only a beginninig to describe his performance. The music was superb and students really appreciated it. The really good part, though, was his interaction with the group. He gave them a history of each piece, why it was written and when and also a bio of each composer. The history students and music students seemed fascinated with that past. Programs such as this are simply grand for rural schools. PUPAR and Arts Council are filling a great need. Vladimir had a charming personality and I left him with kids all around him at the Piano.” CODIE L. RAY, MADISON HISTORICAL SOCIETY INC. TALLULAH, LA
"Recently, I had the distinct pleasure of attending a live concert by a world class concert pianist, Vladimir Zaitsev. No, I was not in New York City at Carnegie Hall. Believe it or not, the concert I attended was held in a small theater in the town of Oak Grove, Louisiana, population approximately 2,000. How fortunate our school was to receive this wonderful cultural opportunity. Mr. Zaitsev performed a variety of music such as classical, 19th century American jazz, and Broadway show tunes. He spoke to the students throughout the program and made it a genuine learning experience for them. Who said children don't appreciate or enjoy anything but pop music? Every student who gave feedback about the concert was unanimous in his or her praise for Mr. Zaitsev's performance." ELMA JO ELMS LANGUAGE ARTS TEACHER GOODWILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
